Title EPA Enforcement Action in Southern California Highlights Critical Need for Hazardous Waste Testing Compliance
Introduction LA Testing provides environmental and hazardous waste testing to help companies analyze liquid, air, soil, and material samples for regulatory compliance and environmental protection.

Huntington Beach, California, March 2, 2026

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced a Southern California manufacturing facility was fined more than $300,000 for violations of hazardous waste regulations under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). This included improper waste identification, inadequate storage tank controls, and failure to perform required inspections.

The case serves as a sharp reminder that companies which generate, treat, store, or dispose of hazardous waste must proactively ensure full compliance with federal and state regulations. Failure to do so can result in not only significant fines, but also reputational risk and operational disruption.

“In this case, the EPA found the facility failed to correctly identify hazardous wastes like xylene, toluene, and butanol when generated from its resin-manufacturing operations,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager of LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “Inspections by regulators are not rare, and the cost of non-compliance can exceed hundreds of thousands of dollars.”

As California’s foremost independent laboratory specializing in environmental and hazardous waste analysis, LA Testing provides comprehensive waste-stream characterization services, including the precise detection of regulated chemicals required for proper classification and compliance. In the event of an audit or inspection, LA Testing’s certified testing, and complete reporting help to demonstrate a company’s due-diligence efforts and compliance posture.

With regulatory enforcement increasing across California, proactive testing and documentation remain essential for companies seeking to avoid fines, safeguard their operations, and demonstrate environmental responsibility.
