Title National Cancer Prevention Month and Reducing Cancer Risk in California Homes and Businesses
Introduction LA Testing provides environmental, material, and industrial hygiene laboratory services, sampling supplies, test kits, and personal protective equipment to identify and mitigate exposure to a wide range of known and suspected carcinogens.

Huntington Beach, California, February 2, 2026

February is National Cancer Prevention Month, a time to focus on proactive measures to reduce cancer risk. Health advocates are emphasizing the importance of identifying and mitigating exposure to environmental carcinogens, which can be a significant factor in cancer development.

According to the California Cancer Registry (CCR), more than 176,000 Californians are expected to be diagnosed with cancer this year. Some cancers can be linked to preventable causes, including exposure to harmful chemicals and substances in homes, workplaces, and outdoor environments.

“National Cancer Prevention Month is an important reminder that prevention can be just as powerful as treatment,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager at LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “Environmental exposure to carcinogens like asbestos, radon, tobacco smoke, formaldehyde, diesel exhaust, and crystalline silica can increase cancer risk. Detecting and minimizing exposure is a critical step in protecting public health.”

LA Testing supports cancer prevention by providing comprehensive environmental, material, and industrial hygiene testing services. With multiple laboratories throughout California, the company offers:

  • Laboratory Testing Services: Analysis of air, water, soil, and building materials for hazardous substances.
  • Test Kits and Monitoring Equipment: Easy-to-use kits and air monitoring instruments to help detect environmental hazards at home, school, or work.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Tools and equipment to reduce exposure risks during testing or cleanup activities.

These resources empower individuals, businesses, and organizations to take steps in identifying and mitigating exposure to carcinogens. Several years ago, LA Testing also sponsored an educational video about National Cancer Prevention Month to raise awareness that can still be seen at: https://youtu.be/d3twvxX1j4o
