Title National Radon Action Month Highlights the Importance of Testing California Homes and Buildings
Introduction LA Testing provides radon and indoor environmental quality testing services, supplies, and test kits to help identify exposure risks across the state.

Huntington Beach, California, January 5, 2026

January marks National Radon Action Month, a nationwide initiative to raise awareness about the health risks of radon exposure and the importance of testing indoor environments. According to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), winter is the ideal season to test for this invisible and odorless radioactive gas. Radon has been detected in every county in California, and CDPH urges all residents to test their homes.

Radon forms naturally from the decay of uranium found in rock, soil, and water. As it moves upward through the ground, it can infiltrate homes and buildings through cracks and openings in foundations, and in some cases, through well water. Prolonged exposure to radon can increase the risk of lung cancer, even at low levels. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identifies radon as the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, after smoking.

“The good news is that testing for radon is a simple and effective process,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager at LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “Knowing your indoor radon levels is essential for protecting health, since inhaled radon particles can become trapped in the lungs. National Radon Action Month is the perfect time for homeowners, property managers, and businesses in California to take proactive steps with testing and mitigation.”

For years, LA Testing has been a trusted partner in identifying indoor environmental hazards. The company offers radon laboratory testing services, sampling supplies, and easy-to-use test kits to help Californians detect and manage exposure risks.
