Title Caribbean Residents Should Expect Property Damage and Exposure Hazards from Hurricane Melissa
Introduction LA Testing offers environmental testing and inspection resources to identify environmental risks following storm damage.

Pasadena, CA - October 27, 2025

Hurricane Melissa swiftly intensified into a major hurricane in the Caribbean, posing a significant threat of severe property damage throughout the region. The expected heavy rainfall, flash flooding, storm surge, and landslides are likely to impact infrastructure, potentially causing widespread power and communication outages.

Although a direct hit on the U.S. mainland is not currently predicted, conditions may change rapidly. Even without making landfall, the strong winds and heavy rainfall could result in substantial damage in densely populated coastal areas. AccuWeather reports that last year's hurricane season led to an estimated $500 billion in property damage and economic losses.

Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at LA Testing  and EMSL Analytical emphasizes the importance of being prepared for potential indoor hazards post-hurricane. Floodwaters may contain sewage and dangerous chemicals, while water damage can trigger mold growth within 48 hours. Properties with lead-based paint or asbestos materials present additional exposure risks during cleanup, demolition, or reconstruction.

LA Testing and EMSL Analytical, with a network of environmental and material testing labs across the West Coast from Seattle to San Diego, and the East Coast from Florida to Maine, are ready to assist communities affected by hurricanes and natural disasters. These companies offer analytical testing services to detect mold, bacteria, lead, asbestos, sewage, chemical contaminants, and other potential hazards. They also provide sampling supplies, user-friendly test kits, building inspection tools, air monitoring devices, and personal protective equipment (PPE) for property owners and remediation professionals.
