LA Testing, a leading provider of infection control testing services in California, is proud to support International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW) 2025, taking place this year from October 19–25.

 

Established in 1986 by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), IIPW serves to raise awareness about the critical role of infection prevention and the professionals dedicated to protecting public health. Their work is more vital than ever, as data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reveals that on any given day, approximately 1 in 31 hospital patients and 1 in 43 nursing home residents have at least one healthcare-associated infection (HAI).

 

HAIs are infections that patients contract during or shortly after receiving care in healthcare settings such as hospitals, outpatient clinics, surgical centers, or long-term care facilities. These infections can be caused by a wide array of bacteria, fungi, and viruses, and are transmitted through contact, ingestion, or inhalation.

 

“Infection prevention professionals play a vital role in safeguarding patients, healthcare workers, and facility occupants,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager at LA Testing’s Huntington Beach location. “From training and proper hand hygiene to the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and rigorous disinfection protocols, their work is essential in minimizing the risk of infections.”
