Title Combating Hay Fever: Identifying Pollen, Mold, and Other Airborne Allergens in California Homes and Workplaces
Introduction LA Testing offers indoor air quality (IAQ) laboratory testing services, sampling supplies, easy-to-use test kits, and monitoring instruments to identify respiratory allergens, irritants, and asthma triggers.

Huntington Beach, California, September 5, 2025

Hay fever, medically known as allergic rhinitis, is a common condition caused by inflammation of the nasal passages following exposure to airborne allergens like pollen or mold. For individuals with sensitized immune systems, even brief contact with these allergens can trigger uncomfortable symptoms.

Pollen is one of the most common culprits, with tree, grass, and ragweed pollen frequently causing seasonal flare-ups. In addition to hay fever, exposure to pollen can also worsen respiratory conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

“Sensitive individuals can experience significant impacts from pollen exposure, whether outdoors or inside,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager at LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “This can lead to missed work or school, reduced productivity, healthcare costs, and overall discomfort. Alongside medical treatment, steps like avoiding high-pollen and moldy environments, improving indoor air quality, and identifying indoor allergens can make a major difference.”

To support these efforts, LA Testing provides a full range of indoor air quality (IAQ) laboratory testing services throughout California. Their offerings include laboratory analysis, sampling supplies, user-friendly test kits, building inspection tools, and advanced air monitoring equipment. These resources help detect not only pollen but also mold, dust mites, animal dander, and other airborne irritants.

LA Testing has also released an educational video exploring the link between hay fever, pollen, and indoor air quality. It can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/nnzsMSWpBtI
