Title Egg Company in California Recalls 1.7 Million Dozen Eggs as CDC Posts Food Safety Alert Linked to a Salmonella Outbreak
Introduction LA Testing offers food and environmental testing services to identify microbial pathogens to mitigate exposure risks, prevent product recalls, and to help pinpoint the source of an outbreak if one has already taken place.

Huntington Beach, California, July 23, 2025

Last month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) posted a Food Safety Alert about a Salmonella outbreak that has been linked to eggs. According to the agency, it knows of 79 illnesses and 21 hospitalizations that have taken place in 7 states.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) is also investigating the outbreak and has posted information about a voluntary recall of eggs by a California-based company. Millions of eggs are part of the recall because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The eggs were sold under multiple brand names and were distributed in California and eight other states.

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that is frequently associated with a number of common foods, including eggs. Most people who become infected develop diarrhea, vomiting, fever, chills, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. The illness typically lasts 4 to 7 days and most people recover without treatment. For some, the condition can be severe, requiring hospitalization.

“At LA Testing, we offer food and environmental testing services for Salmonella, E.coli, Listeria, and other potential contaminants to protect the public and support food producers, processors, importers, and distributors,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager of LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “With multiple laboratories in California, LA Testing provides rapid PCR testing and traditional culture methods to help prevent contaminated products from ever reaching consumers. If an outbreak has already occurred, this form of testing can also be instrumental in pinpointing the source of contamination.”
