Title Multiple Cases of Legionnaires’ Disease Investigated at Two Las Vegas Properties
Introduction LA Testing offers PCR and traditional culture methods to quickly and accurately identify the microbial pathogen that causes Legionnaires’ disease and Pontiac fever from environmental samples to help prevent infections.

Huntington Beach, California, July 21, 2025

In late May, the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) announced it was conducting two Legionnaires’ disease investigations. One at a Las Vegas resort and the other investigation at a nearby hotel casino.

At the resort, the agency is looking into three travel-associated cases of Legionnaires’ disease in individuals who stayed at the property. One person stayed at the property in February of this year, while the other two stayed in April. All three were hospitalized; two have since recovered, and one remained hospitalized at the time SNHD received the report.

With the hotel casino investigation, SNHD is examining two travel-associated cases of Legionnaires’ disease in individuals who stayed at the property. One person stayed in August of last year, while the other stayed in February 2025. Fortunately, both individuals have since recovered.

“In each of these cases, SNHD claims it collected multiple water samples that tested positive for Legionella bacteria, the cause of Legionnaires’ disease,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager of LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “Since Legionella can be found in some man-made environments, typically in water, infections can occur in vulnerable populations if contaminated water droplets or mists are inhaled. These water sources may include hot tubs, cooling towers, potable water systems, hot water tanks, large plumbing systems, and even decorative fountains.”

With multiple laboratories in California, LA Testing offers laboratory services, specialized sampling supplies, and easy-to-use test kits to detect Legionella and many other microbial pathogens from environmental samples. These services are available to property owners, facility managers, infection control specialists, public health agencies, and the public.
