Huntington Beach, California, June 10, 2025
National Safety Month takes place each June in California and across the nation. Started by the National Safety Council (NSC) in 1996, the month-long observance is meant to raise awareness of workplace safety and health risks, and to improve efforts to reduce occupational injuries, illnesses, and deaths. The four weekly themes for National Safety Week 2025 include continuous improvement, employee engagement, roadway safety, and wellbeing.
In the Golden State, the California Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1973 was enacted to assure safe and healthful working conditions by creating the Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), better known as Cal/OSHA. The agency enforces effective standards, assists and encourages employers to maintain safe and healthful working conditions, and provides for enforcement, research, information, education, and training in the field of occupational safety and health.
“EHS programs that protect California’s workforce, and comply with Cal/OSHA requirements, are essential considering that as recently as 2023, there were still 439 fatal occupational injuries and over 363,000 nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses in the state, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager of LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “Each one of these cases represents an individual and are why LA Testing strongly supports the efforts of National Safety Month. We offer industrial hygiene and EHS testing services for chemical, microbial, and radiological hazards. Our California laboratories are also a primary source for sampling supplies, easy-to-use test kits, monitoring instruments, personal protective equipment, building inspection tools, and many other health and safety resources.”
LA Testing sponsored an educational video about National Safety Month several years ago that can still be seen at: https://youtu.be/ygdLjYfG8z0
