Title Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month and Optimizing Air Quality Conditions in California Homes and Buildings
Introduction LA Testing offers environmental testing services, sampling supplies, test kits, and monitoring instruments to identify and mitigate exposure to many asthma triggers, allergens, respiratory irritants, and other airborne pollutants.

Huntington Beach, California, May 16, 2025

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) reports that 15.1% of the state’s population has at one time been diagnosed with asthma. For many who suffer from the condition, asthma attacks result in numerous missed school and work days, as well as trips to the emergency room. Tragically, a number of Californians die each year due to the chronic disease.

To increase awareness about asthma, and provide information about ways asthmatics can manage their condition by preventing or mitigating exposure to environmental asthma triggers, the month of May is designated as Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month. This year, May 6th is also recognized as World Asthma Day.

According to the California Air Resources Board (CARB): There are many asthma triggers in addition to air pollution. These include pollens, dust mites, animal dander, and fragrances, among others. Typically an individual asthmatic responds to a unique subset of asthma triggers. Air pollution is a well-documented asthma trigger for some asthmatics; however, the role air pollution plays in initiating asthma is still under investigation and likely involves a complex set of interactions between indoor and outdoor environmental exposures and individual genetic susceptibility.

“While there is no cure for asthma, it can be controlled,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager of LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “Avoiding exposure to asthma triggers, airborne allergens, and respiratory irritants is a key part of managing many respiratory conditions. To help achieve this, LA Testing offers air and indoor environmental quality laboratory testing services, sampling supplies, easy-to-use test kits, and air monitoring instruments. These resources can detect a wide range of environmental asthma triggers and airborne pollutants to help people better manage what they are being exposed to in their homes, schools, and work environments.”
