Huntington Beach, California, April 16, 2024
April 28th is recognized as Workers Memorial Day in California and across the United States. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) describes it as a time to honor workers who have died on the job, to acknowledge the grievous suffering experienced by families and communities, and to recommit ourselves to the fight for safe and healthful workplaces for all workers.
Protecting the health and safety of workers is a critical function as thousands die on the job each year in the United States. Sadly, millions more are injured or develop illnesses. In California alone, there were 504 fatal occupational injuries as recently as 2022. This was an increase from the 462 deaths in 2021. The 2022 figures include 132 that died due to exposure to harmful substances or environments, also up from 103 in 2021.
“To keep workers safe in California, industrial hygiene testing and monitoring services are crucial components of effective occupational health and safety programs,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager of LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “LA Testing is proud to support all the dedicated industrial hygiene and safety professionals across the state. Our laboratories provide a wide range of industrial hygiene and environmental, health and safety testing resources. We also offer sampling supplies, monitoring instruments and personal protective equipment.”
Several years ago, LA Testing sponsored an educational video about Workers Memorial Day that can still be seen at: https://youtu.be/ksB6drQOY88
