Huntington Beach, CA, April 2nd, 2021
There was a time when thousands of different products were manufactured using asbestos. These products ranged from consumer goods and building materials regularly found in homes, schools, offices, and other buildings to industrial products used in factories and ships.
Due to how commonly asbestos was used, exposure hazards still exist in many California homes, businesses, and institutions. Last week, the U.S. Senate raised attention to this fact on a national level. A resolution designating the first week of April in 2021, as “National Asbestos Awareness Week” was agreed upon by the Senate and a copy of the resolution will be sent to the Office of the Surgeon General. Senate Resolution 145 reminds the public that asbestos hazards still exist today and that it’s important to raise public awareness about the prevalence of asbestos-related diseases associated with asbestos exposure.
“A question that is often received at the laboratory, is how does one know if a material does contain asbestos?” said Joseph Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at LA Testing. “The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) states that while visual appearance may cause one to suspect that a material or product contains asbestos, actual asbestos determinations can only be made using instrumental analysis. This is true as asbestos-containing materials are rarely labeled. At LA Testing, our California laboratories provide this essential answer through bulk material, industrial hygiene, and environmental sample analysis. In addition to laboratory testing services, we provide sampling supplies, easy-to-use test kits, and personal protective equipment. Testing can also be a key component to keeping companies and institutions in regulatory compliance.”
