Title EPA Announces $27.5 Million to Reduce Lead in California Drinking Water
Introduction LA Testing highlights comprehensive lead testing laboratory services for water, air, dust, soil, paint, plumbing materials, and other sources.

Huntington Beach, California, September 29, 2026

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced $27.5 million in funding for California to help reduce exposure to lead in drinking water. Distributed through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, the funding will support efforts to identify lead service lines, plan removal projects, and replace aging lead pipes that may contaminate drinking water supplies.

The funding is part of a broader EPA initiative providing nearly $2.9 billion to states to address lead in drinking water infrastructure. Communities can use these resources to locate lead service lines, develop replacement strategies, and complete upgrades that help protect public health.

Lead is a potent neurotoxin that can cause serious health effects, particularly in children. Even low levels of exposure have been associated with developmental, learning, and behavioral problems, making the identification and mitigation of lead hazards an ongoing priority.

While replacing lead service lines is an important step, lead hazards can also be found in other environmental media and building materials. To help identify potential sources of exposure, LA Testing's California laboratories provide accredited lead testing services for water, air, dust, soil, paint chips, plumbing materials, bulk materials, and other sample types.

LA Testing also offers sampling supplies and easy-to-use test kits to help environmental professionals, property owners, schools, healthcare facilities, contractors, and government agencies identify lead contamination and assess exposure risks. The company’s services support lead investigations, renovation and demolition projects, environmental site assessments, drinking water evaluations, and regulatory compliance efforts.

“Lead exposure remains a significant public health concern, and testing is an essential first step in identifying and addressing potential hazards,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager of LA Testing’s Huntington Beach laboratory. “As communities work to improve drinking water infrastructure, it is important to recognize that lead may also be present in paint, dust, soil, and other environmental sources. Our laboratories are committed to providing reliable testing services that help protect building occupants, workers, and the public.”
